Brief presentation of the institution

 'Horia Hulubei' National Institute of Physics and Nuclear Engineering is engaged in research and development in a wide variety of areas of fundamental and applied research, as well as theoretical physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics, atomic physics, life and environmental physics, nuclear techniques and advanced communication systems. The Biophysics and Radiobiology Group, as part of the Department of Life and Environmental Physics, has expertise in the field of molecular and cellular biophysics and radiobiology. The group was involved in projects related to: cellular radiosensitivity in pathologies associated with oxidative stress and DNA repair impairement, peptides–model membrane/cell cultures interactions, oxidative stress in major impact diseases, in vitro and in vivo toxicological studies on radio-pharmaceuticals products, surfaces functionalization for biological structure recognition. As part of the Biophysics and Radiobiology Group, the Biocompatibility Evaluation of Medical Materials and Devices Laboratory (BIOEVAL) has implemented a quality management system for testing laboratories according to SR EN ISO/CEI 17025 and ISO10993 documents and was accredited by the national accreditation authorities (RENAR) in 2010. BIOEVAL provides services in some of the specific test required to make the preclinical evaluation of biocompatibility for medical materials or devices.
